This wiki is maintained by Scott Vrieze's group at the University of Minnesota. We are a research group in the Psychology Department at the University of Minnesota. Our research includes

• Genome-wide association studies using microarrays and whole genome sequencing.

PSYC 3102: Behavioral Genetics. This course covers introductory material and concepts in behavioral and psychiatric genetics. We cover the history of BG, Mendelian diseases to illustrate basic gene/environment concepts, twin and adoption studies, and recent molecular approaches including whole genome sequencing and genome wide association analyses.

PSYC 3112: Behavioral Genetics II. This course covers more advanced concepts in behavioral genetics, including recent molecular approaches including whole genome sequencing and genome wide association analyses.

PSYC 7102: Statistical Genetics

PSYC 7693: Personality Measurement. Core PhD-level clinical psychology course designed to teach basic measurement and decision theory, as well as application of psychological tests like the MMPI-2 and structured interviews like the SCID5.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in field related to statistical genetics or psychiatric genetics (e.g., Psychology, Biostatistics, Computation Biology), and at least one year of post-doctoral experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate authorization to work in the United States at the University of Minnesota by the start date.

Desired Qualifications:

Ph.D. in relevant field and with background in statistical or psychiatric genetics Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by scientific publications Excellent organizational and time management skills Proven ability to problem solve and excellent interpersonal skills

About the Job

Anticipated starting date is Sept 1, 2017, but can be earlier. Initial appointment will be for 12 months with renewal likely contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Responsibilities:

1. Duties include working on a large-scale genome-wide association study and whole genome sequencing analyses of psychopathology and addiction. Individuals without extensive experience in genetic association analyses will also be considered.

1. Utilize custom software for data collection.

1. Assist with the distribution and validation of online assessments and wireless monitoring to efficiently recruit

and assess large numbers of individuals for genetic research.

1. Ability to follow novel study designs and experimental protocols.

1. May oversee data collection by graduate students/post docs.

1. Manuscript preparations for peer-reviewed journals, including writing, editing, making figures, proofing and revisions

1. Discuss and plan new avenues of investigation. Drafting of proposals to procure research funding.

About the Department

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 41 core faculty, 135 graduate students, and supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Throughout its nearly 100 year history, the Department of Psychology has been marked by distinction and excellence.
